The $1,000 fine does not include penalty assessments and court fees, which can more than triple the fine amount. The license suspension can generally be converted into a restricted license in most circumstances, after 30 days following an administrative suspension.

Administrative License Suspension for DUI Offenses

When a person is convicted of DUI, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will seek an administrative suspension of their drivers’ license, which is separate from the suspension triggered by a criminal court. The person is able to partake in a DMV hearing in an effort to reclaim their driving privileges, but they must request the hearing within 10 days of their arrest.
